Mr. President of the General Assembly, Mr. Secretary-General, Excellencies, Heads of State and Government, distinguished delegates: Honduras comes to this Assembly bearing the title of founding nation: one of the fifty countries that, eighty-one years ago, signed in San Francisco, California, the Charter of the United Nations that governs us today.

Nine months ago we went to elections. Our democracy and freedom were at risk.

They were saved by the institutions that resisted and by the Hondurans who decided at the ballot box, with their vote, to change course.

And we do not say this alone: international observers witnessed an exemplary election day in the midst of the test.

To that effort of brave women and men was added the support of the international democracies that accompanied us in the rescue of our country.

And when we began our work, we found a people who had never lost their dignity or their hope.

Today we are strengthening our institutions and our multiparty democracy.

Mr. President: From the very first day we decided to govern differently: with deeds.

We are reducing spending in order to invest in health, education, infrastructure and security. All this with macroeconomic stability, fiscal responsibility.

No national effort is sufficient, by itself, in the face of the global conditions that today determine the development of our nations.

Today, the world economy is facing an energy crisis because of high oil prices, which directly affects our population.

This is the only space where the voice of a country of eleven million inhabitants is heard.

Honduras exercises sovereignty over the entire national territory and administers its natural resources in accordance with its Constitution. The law applies to everyone, in every corner of the country, because without legal certainty, and respect for private property, there is no peace, development, employment and investment. The right to development of millions of Hondurans is the duty of their ruler.

Honduras fulfills its commitments, honours its agreements and treaties. These principles are not selective.

I visited Ukraine three months ago, where I saw a people defending and fighting for their freedom, respecting territorial integrity and political independence, protecting the civilian population and achieving a lasting peace.

Security is not decreed. It is built with resources, with training and with political decision.

That is what we are doing: we are equipping and strengthening our National Police and our Armed Forces.

Because transnational organized crime does not respect borders. Drug trafficking networks, maras and gangs operate in several countries at the same time, and no country defeats them alone.

It is a shared responsibility, in which each nation contributes what corresponds to it. Democracies with aligned interests must act together, with speed and firmness. Only in this way will we have security and prosperity in our hemisphere.

Mr. President: There is another challenge that no country faces alone: natural phenomena.

Today we are confronting a severe drought, and we are taking concrete decisions to support our most vulnerable citizens.

The hurricanes that have affected us in the past and today’s drought have the same origin: an increasingly extreme climate, which is going to affect the whole world for decades.

Our response is not only to react, but also to continue preparing ourselves to mitigate the effects of climate change; we are investing our own resources in protecting lives, crops and access to drinking water.

But we want to go further.

Honduras opens its doors to those who are developing new solutions for water, agriculture, early warning and the infrastructure that we need in our country.

Addressing these challenges allows us to focus on the future.

Honduras is a serious country, a country of laws, in which we invite you to invest.

To those who invest in Honduras, we offer opportunities, order, transparency and clear rules.

We are complying with the International Monetary Fund and, in seven months of government, we increased our international reserves by 1.3 billion dollars, which represents an increase of 13 per cent.

We returned to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) on 6 March 2026, of which we had been members since 1989, in order to resolve problems responsibly.

With these actions, we reiterate that in Honduras the rules are the same for everyone, and they are observed.

On that basis, Honduras offers concrete investment opportunities in logistics, industry, energy, infrastructure, agribusiness, mining and tourism, among other sectors.

We are the centre of America, between two oceans. We are upgrading Puerto Cortés, a port on the Caribbean-Atlantic, the port with the greatest growth potential and one of the principal ports of Central America.

We are investing to strengthen our road infrastructure in order to create the logistics corridor, to link the Atlantic with the Pacific; this location allows us to offer the world secure, reliable and efficient supply chains.

Honduras is already one of the principal exporters of textiles, a manufacturer of clothing for well-known brands. Also, electrical harnesses and automotive parts that are exported around the world come out of Honduran factories. Around 200,000 Hondurans work in those industries.

Those factories, maquilas and other industry require stable energy, at competitive prices; that is why a reform to the electricity law, promoted by the presidency, was recently approved by the National Congress. That is why we invite domestic and foreign investment to participate in the development of the energy sector in Honduras in the generation, transmission and distribution of energy.

We have fertile lands. We are the leading exporter of coffee in Central America and the fifth worldwide. Fifty-seven per cent of the coffee Honduras exports consists of differentiated, certified and specialty coffees, reflecting quality and a standard of excellence.

Honduras recognizes in its agriculture, aquaculture and poultry farming fundamental pillars for economic development, food security and the generation of employment. Our commitment is to promote these sectors in a sustainable manner, strengthening our producers and bringing the quality of Honduran products to international markets.

Our lands have mineral wealth with enormous potential yet to be harnessed. We have the opportunity to develop a modern, responsible and sustainable mining industry to generate employment and transform these resources into development and prosperity for our people, and we want to develop them with clear rules, with respect for the environment and for the benefit of communities.

Our extraordinary biodiversity, natural wealth and cultural heritage make us a land of enormous tourism potential. From the crystal-clear waters and reefs of the Bay Islands to the grandeur of Copán and the legacy of the Mayan civilization, we offer the world a unique combination of nature, history and culture.

And we have, above all, the most valuable asset of any nation: a young, hard-working and capable population, which rightly demands the opportunity to deploy its talent in its own land.

We want investment that comes to stay: that generates jobs, and that brings knowledge to train our young people. My commitment is to facilitate investment in Honduras.

Honduras is renewing itself: it has once again believed in its institutions, looks its allies in the eye and is building its future with work, order and hope.

Today Honduras reaffirms its commitment to peace, international law, sovereignty and cooperation among States.

Our country has understood that sovereignty does not mean isolation, but rather the ability to engage with the world on the basis of equality and respect.

God bless you, God bless your Nations and God bless Honduras.

Thank you very much to everyone.
