Mafizul Islam
Everyone calls me Mafi. I built this talk for SUNIA 2026 — an interactive documentary about the power, heat and land that artificial intelligence actually runs on.
Why I made this
The word "cloud" does a lot of damage. It makes AI sound weightless, like something that happens somewhere else. It doesn't. It happens in buildings you can drive to, drawing electricity off a grid you share, rejecting heat into air and water that belong to a place. In Alberta that place is a specific one, with specific people already living in it.
So this isn't a talk about whether AI is good or bad. It is a talk about a machine you can actually look at — how big it is, what it eats, who decides where it goes. Once you can see the machine, you can have an opinion worth defending.
That's also why the rules lab exists. Choosing conditions for a project is harder than being for or against one, and the limit on how many you can pick is the whole lesson.
One rule I held myself to
Every number here is labelled with who said it — a regulator, a government, a company, or my own calculation — and anything genuinely not public is shown as not disclosed rather than quietly rounded to zero. 19 sources, 30 claims, 21 scenes. If you think I got something wrong, the source ledger is where to check me.

Questions after the talk are welcome — especially the ones that start with "but what about".
